Bernard Burgess Jones

1936-2023

Bernard Burgess Jones, age 87, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born February 23, 1936 in Williamson, W.Va., he was the son of the late Edward Hollis and Hazy Parsade Carroll Jones.

He attended First United Methodist Church.

Bernard was a 1954 graduate of Williamson High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Arts from Shepherd College. He served with the United States Air Force from September 10, 1954 until his honorable discharge on September 9, 1958 during the Korean War. Bernard retired as a Senior Administrator with the IBM Company after 30 years of service. After his retirement, he went to work in the technology field with Bell Atlantic Telephone Company, Fort Ritchie Military Base and the Veteran Affairs Medical Center.

He was a member of the AMVETS, Disabled American Veterans and the Williamson High School Hall of Fame.

Bernard enjoyed coin collecting, playing basketball, genealogy and was a French enthusiast.

Bernard is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nancy May Tucker Jones, at home, three children, Susan J. Schultz of Greenville, N.C., Robert L. Jones and his wife Myung of Stewartville, Minn. and Julie L. Tyson of Martinsburg, two brothers, John Jones and Jerry Jones, six grandchildren, Mary Schultz Gruner, Maggie Rose Schultz, Evan Bernard Jones, Sarah Hwija Jones, Tara CK Montague and Dylan J. Kontra, one great-grandson, Theodore J. Montague and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Homer Jones, James Jones and Frank Jones. Celebration of Life Services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at First United Methodist Church, 49 S. Green Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. Pastor Josh Rider officiated.

Burial was private.

The family received friends from 3 p.m.-7 p.m. on Friday, December 8, 2023 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
