by Geoff Fox

A Hancock man was killed in a two-vehicle collision west of Hancock in the 3300 block of National Pike on Sunday, November 26. His passenger was injured and transported for medical treatment.

Stephen Keith Duvall, 57, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

According to Sgt. Howard Ward of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the site, which is the area of the Apple Tree Inn, for a personal injury collision.

A preliminary investigation by police revealed a Honda Accord driven by Duvall was exiting a nearby parking lot when a Toyota Tundra traveling westbound on National Pike struck the Honda Accord.

An unidentified passenger of the Accord, a 55-year old male, also of Hancock, was flown to a Pennsylvania hospital. His condition was unknown at press time.

The driver of the Toyota Tundra was identified as Tyler Michael Clingerman, 24, of Warfordsburg. Clingerman was transported to Meritus Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries, Ward said. There was no update on his condition on Monday.

“The Washington County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and is actively conducting the investigation,” Ward said in an email. “Not further information is available for release at this time.”

According to social media, units from Hancock Fire Company, Hancock Rescue Squad, and Morgan County assisted at the scene.

National Pike was shut down for an extended period while responders worked at the accident scene.
