Charles Edward Michael, 99, of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia passed away on November 25, 2023 at the Berkeley Springs Health Care Center.
Charles (Ed) was born on October 15, 1924 to Charles W. Michael and Ottie B. Shade Michael in Berkeley Springs.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II and always highly valued this service. Charles stayed in touch with his service buddies and attended navy reunions of his fleet for many years.
Ed worked at the Interwoven in Berkeley Springs as a mechanic until it closed. He then worked as an electrician for a while before starting his own carpentry business where he worked until his retirement.
He was a member of Alderton-Dawson American Legion and Mt. Zion Methodist Church. In his spare time he loved to hunt, especially rabbit hunting and listening to his rabbit dogs having a good chase.
Ed is survived by his wife of 76 years, Naomi V. Householder Michael, his daughter, Judy Harden (James), his son, John Michael, (Rhonda), his sister Carrie Michael, four grandchildren, Jeannette Shaffer, Becky Harden, Michael Harden and Logan Michael, six great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his six sisters, Hattie Didawick, Viola Michael, Nannie Michael, Emily Miner, Helen Robertson and Blanche McCarty.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, December 1, 2023 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 5377 Martinsburg Road, Berkeley Springs. Chaplain Lindsey Arnold will officiate. Burial will be in Spohrs Crossroads Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, WV.
