John Allen McCusker
1954-2023
John Allen McCusker, 69, of Little Orleans, Md., passed away Monday, November 13, 2023, at UMPC Western Maryland.
Born January 21, 1954, in Cumberland, Md., to the late Bernard L. and E. Katherine (Sullivan) McCusker.
John leaves behind his wife of 47 years, Robin (Hixon) McCusker. They wed on April 3, 1976, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Hancock, Md. Father Paul Witthauer, Monsignor McGrath of Hagerstown and Father W. Shelby Walthall of St. Thomas Episcopal Church officiated.
He is survived by sons, Jeremy (Vickie) McCusker of Little Orleans, Md., Isaiah (April) McCusker of Maugansville, Md., Justin McCusker (Denise) of Little Orleans, and his little fur grand-dog, Dottie; three grandsons, Jaden McCusker (Lucia), Ashton McCusker and Damien Hinckle; 1 granddaughter, Elizabeth Hinckle (Chris Younker); 3 great-grandsons, Carson Hinckle, Oliver Hinckle and Cameron Younker; 1 great-granddaughter, Nova Star Younker; brothers Wayne, Anthony and Kenny McCusker; sisters, Carol Barnes, Vickie Younker and Angie McCusker; a special niece Jamie Sandeen; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Wesley McCusker, Michael McCusker and Patricia Price.
A 1972 graduate of Flintstone High School, he started his work career the following day at Green Ridge State Forest. He held many positions working for the State of Maryland, Conservation Associate, Park Technician, Maintenance Chief and Park Ranger. He graduated from Eastern Shore Criminal Justice Academy. He retired in 1997 as a Law Enforcement Park Ranger. Most recently he worked seasonally at Sideling Hill Creek State Park. John was proud to say he worked at Maryland’s first State Park, Fort Frederick and at Maryland’s newest, Sideling Hill Creek.
He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Hancock, Md. and St. Patrick’s, Little Orleans, Md. He helped start the Orleans Volunteer Fire Company, serving as President along the way.
John was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather. He loved to travel and hunt. A hard worker, he enjoyed getting his boys together to cut, split and stack wood. We will miss his stories. His memory will live on in our hearts. When asked, how are you doing? His reply would be, “Next thing to wonderful!”
Funeral service will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 12517 St. Patrick Road, Little Orleans, Md. on Friday, December 1, 2023, at 1 p.m. Father Tom Gills and Father Jack Lombardi, officiating. Interment immediately following in the adjacent cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in John’s name to Little Orleans Fire Company, 12210 Orleans Road, NE., Little Orleans, MD 21766, St. Patrick Catholic Church, 12517 St. Patrick Road, Little Orleans, MD 21766, or St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 16 E. High St., Hancock, MD.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Grove-Rogowski Funeral Home, 141 West Main St., Hancock, MD.
