Anna Gay Pennington
Anna Gay Pennington, 80, passed away at her daughter’s home in Hancock, Md. on Saturday, September 23, 2023.
Born in Dryfork, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Easton and Myrtle Wolford and the wife of the late Jack R. Pennington, Sr.
Anna’s first job after marrying her husband Jack was as a waitress at Cameron Station in Alexandria, Va. for a short time before settling back to West Virginia. She also worked as an inspector at Trans Tech in Adamstown, Md. and retired from Badger Powhatan after 20 years as a Machine Operator.
Anna enjoyed spending time with her family, doing her puzzle books and reading. She also enjoyed horses and watching birds and deer.
It brought her great joy to spend time with her great-granddaughter Hazel Grace (little Amanda). Anna also leaves behind her dear friends, Debbie Daley and Steve Iden.
Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Jack R. Pennington, Sr. whom she married March 1, 1964; two brothers, Hobert Wolford, Sr., and Harding Wolford; two sisters, Genny May Cross and Betty Wolford.
She is survived by seven children; Clinton Pennington and wife Luci of Virginia Beach, Va., Goldie Pennington and partner Chris Weller of Hancock, Md., Connie Burkes and husband Ronnie of Martinsburg, W.Va., David Pennington of Martinsburg, W.Va., Lonnie Pennington of Martinsburg, W.Va., Jack Pennington, Sr. and wife Sarah of Martinsburg, W.Va., and William Scott Pennington of Winchester, Va.; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon on Thursday, October 5, 2023 at Hancock United Methodist Church, 170 West Main Street in Hancock, Md., where the family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time. Reverend Becki Wessinger will officiate. The burial will take place at Greenway Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center towards the expense of the funeral.
