William “Bill” Pelfrey, aged 69, of Berkeley Springs, son of the late Troy and Marylou Pelfrey passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on Wednesday, September 13, 2023.

A city boy from Baltimore with a cowboy’s heart, Bill was a man of many talents and interests, but above all, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

Born and raised in Baltimore on January 15, 1954, Bill graduated from Randallstown High School with the class of 1972.

He was a proud Navy veteran who served his country with honor and distinction. He furthered his education to ultimately become a service engineer in the field of nuclear medicine, where he worked for many years.

Despite his city upbringing, Bill always had a cowboy’s spirit. He loved the quiet solitude of nature and the simple, honest work of a cowboy’s life. Bill was a man of deep conviction and unwavering integrity. He was known for his sharp wit, his keen intellect, and his boundless curiosity. He was a voracious reader, a skilled craftsman, and a lover of all things mechanical.

Above all else, Bill was a family man. He was deeply in love with his wife of 47 years, Linda Pelfrey. Their love story was one for the ages, filled with laughter, adventure, and an unshakeable bond that only grew stronger with time. Together, they built a beautiful life and a loving family, creating a legacy that will endure for generations to come.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Linda; his children, Barry Pelfrey and his wife Denise of Martinsburg, W.Va., Michael Pelfrey and his wife Sandy of New Bern, N.C., Daniel Pelfrey and his wife Amy of Falling Waters, W.Va. and Jason Pelfrey and his fiancé Trish Leigh of Hedgesville, W.Va.; 7 grandchildren Kristen, Bryan, Johnathan, Sarah, Sabrina, Hudson and Jayden; 1 great-grandchild, Jackson; three sisters Catherine, Caroline and Christine and 1 brother Troy; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.

He was a pillar of strength, a beacon of wisdom, and a source of endless love and support. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by two sisters Mary Margaret “Kitty” and Diane.

Prayer services for Bill’s life will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. Rev. Fr. John Lombardi will officiate. Private burial will be in Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Marriottsville, Md. The family received friends and family from 3-7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
