Sharon Lorraine Swain
1955-2023
Sharon Lorraine Swain, 67, of Big Pool, Md., passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 17, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Sharon passed away at her Maryland home after having been visited by her family and friends in her last few days.
Born November 14, 1955, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Robert Chester DeShong and Janice (Miller) DeShong.
Sharon was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved helping in many ways.
She retired after 25 years of being a rural US Postal contractor.
She loved working outdoors and while raising our sons, was in charge of the Clear Spring Little League concession stand for 10 years. Through 12 years of being a coaches’ wife she assumed many roles such as statistician, equipment manager and her favorite “Team Mother.” While her three grandchildren were growing up, she was the proud grandmother attending their events, from sports to dance to boy scouts to bmx to majorettes.
Sharon loved to travel and had been in all 50 states, except Hawaii. Some areas she really enjoyed were the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, the New England area, the coastal highway between Seattle, Washington and San Francisco, California; staying 20 miles away from Denali in Alaska; and vacationing many years in Florida and living there the last three years. For the last 14 years, Key West was her favorite vacation destination.
Sharon is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Steve Swain of Big Pool; two sons, Mark A. Swain (Lori) of Greencastle, Pa. and Michael R. Swain (Nichole “Nikki”) of Big Pool; and 3 grandchildren, Melody “Sio,” Alicyn “Ali” and Bryce Swain.
There will be no viewing or visitation. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Clear Spring Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 400, Clear Spring, MD 21722 or to the Joseph C. Herbert American Legion Post 222, P.O. Box 158, Clear Spring, MD 21722.
