Elvarine Vanorsdale, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2023, at the age of 83. She was surrounded by her loving family at her home in Hancock, Maryland.

Born on April 15, 1940, in Hagerstown, Maryland, Elvarine was the daughter of the late John and Betsy Shifflett Morris. She grew up in a large family with thirteen siblings and developed a strong sense of unity and love amongst them.

Elvarine found fulfillment in her professional career that spanned over many years. She dedicated a significant part of her life to working at the McConnellsburg Garment Factory in McConnellsburg, Pa., and London Fog Manufacturing in Hancock, Maryland where she worked for an impressive twenty years.

With an unwavering faith in God and a kind heart, Elvarine embraced the Christian faith. Her spirituality guided her throughout her life and provided solace during trying times.

Outside of work and faith commitments, Elvarine had a multitude of interests and hobbies that brought joy into her life. She had a green thumb and took immense pleasure in gardening and floral arranging. Her garden bloomed with vibrant colors under her loving care. Additionally, she loved spending time in the kitchen baking delicious treats for her loved ones. Elvarine also enjoyed keeping her mind sharp by solving crossword puzzles that challenged her intellect.

In addition to being hardworking and passionate about her hobbies, Elvarine was a devoted wife to Donald Vanorsdale Sr., whom she shared many beautiful memories with over their 65 years of marriage. She took great pride in her role as a mother and nurtured her children with love, compassion and unwavering support.

Elvarine is survived by one daughter, Cindy Maconaughey (Raymond) Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; two sons, Donald Vanorsdale, Jr. (Ann) Warfordsburg, Pa., and Rickey Vanorsdale (Robin), Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Steven Sr., Steven Jr., Maryann, Misty and Rickey Jr.; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Donna Weller, Hancock, Md.; one brother, Kenny Morris, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa Vanorsdale and eleven siblings.

A visitation to celebrate Elvarine’s life was held on Friday, July 21, from 6-8 p.m., at the Grove Funeral Home, P.A., 141 West Main Street in Hancock, Md., and on Saturday, July 22, from 10-11 a.m., at the same location. Following the second visitation, a funeral service was held at Grove Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Pastor Lynn Singleton officiated. Burial followed the service at Rehobeth United Methodist Church.

Elvarine Vanorsdale’s life was one filled with love, warmth and devotion to family. She will forever be remembered for her kind heartedness and unwavering faith in God. Her legacy lives on through her family and all those whose lives she touched with her loving presence.
