Joan grew up in the Hamden Neighborhood of Baltimore and graduated from Eastern High School in February 1960. Joan and Joe were married on April 9, 1960, and she worked at the telephone company. They moved to Rosedale and she concentrated on raising her boys through the late 1970s when she started to work for the Baltimore County Board of Education as a substitute teacher at North Point Junior High and Golden Ring Junior High. Later she would work in the Guidance Office of Golden Ring as an assistant to the counselors. After retirement, Joe and Joan moved to Sidling Hill in 1996.
Over the years, Joan was involved with many civic activities, PTA and clubs. She had a love of archery. She was a member of the Maryland State Game and Fish Protective Association where she competed and was Archery Queen in 1962. Recently, Joan was a ruling elder at Mt. Olivet Presbyterian Church and moderator for the Presbyterian Women of the Church. She often volunteered in many areas, wherever the church needed. She loved her Thursday dinners with friends.
