Arthur Eugene Peters

1928-2023

Arthur Eugene Peters, age 94 of Great Cacapon, W.Va., died on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at his home.

Born August 2, 1928 in Takoma Park, Md., he was the son of the late, William Oscar and Mary Agnes Clark Peters.

He was of Baptist faith. Arthur was a graduate of Takoma Park Public Schools. He served with the United States Army during World War II from June 18, 1946 until his honorable discharge on October 21, 1947, where he was awarded the World War II Ribbon and the Army of Occupation Medal with Japan Clasp. Arthur worked as a store manager with the Montgomery County Department of Liquor Control. He was a member of Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post #60 in Berkeley Springs. Arthur enjoyed golfing, road trips, watching sports, especially baseball and football and spending time with his family.

Arthur is survived by his children, Brenda Joy Hutchinson and her husband, Steve of Great Cacapon, Kenneth Eugene Peters and his husband, Michael Dawson of Raleigh, N.C., and Michelle Renai Emerick and her husband, Scott of Hagerstown, Md.; four grandchildren, Jesse William Lefever and his wife, Anne of El Mirage, Calif., Scott Davis Lefever and his wife, Paige of Pomona, Calif., Jeremy McFalls Lefever of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Caroline Hope Pate and her husband, Bruce of Wilmington, N.C., and one great granddaughter, Madeline Gray Pate and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Gray Adams Peters on January 26, 2018; two sisters, Marjorie Henrietta Welch and Joan Elizabeth Smith and three brothers, Charles Oscar Peters, George Donald Peters and Robert Kenneth Peters.

Funeral services were conducted at noon on Monday, May 1, 2023 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., where the family received friends from 10 a.m. until services. Private burial with graveside military honors provided by the Tri-State Honor Guard was at Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery in Flintstone, Md.
