by Lisa Schauer

The Hancock Panthers traveled to Hagerstown Community College on Saturday, February 4 to compete in the 1A Western Regionals indoor track meet.

“As of today we have three definite state contenders and another who is on the cusp of getting in,” said assistant coach Karen Strait.

The Maryland state championships for indoor track and field will be held at Prince George’s Sports Complex on February 20.

Hancock High School student athletes going on to the state championships are senior Aidan Faith in the high jump; sophomore Logan Trumpower in the high jump; senior Josie Foltz in the shot put; and senior Caleb Walls, who has a chance in the shot put. Faith and Trumpower each set personal records in their specialty at the regional competition.

Sophomore Brody Stratton set a personal record in shot put. Freshman Emalee Chewning had a personal best in the 300 meter.

The girls’ 4×200 relay team of Aidan Faith, Amy Davis, Emalee Chewning and Taylor Walls, shaved off five seconds from their original time.
