Allen murder trial postponed

The trial of a Hancock man accused of murdering his roommate has been postponed in Washington County Circuit Court.

According to online court documents, the trial for Everett Allen was scheduled to begin on Tuesday, February 7, and run through Thursday, February 9 in Washington County Circuit Court.

Allen’ s attorney has requested a continuance in the case, with a January 10 motion filed and granted the following day, according to online court documents.

A new date had not been scheduled as of press time.

This is the second time the trial has been postponed.

Allen was originally set to stand trial in May 2022.

Allen, 58, is accused of murdering his roommate, Eddie Smith, 53, in the early morning hours of March 27, 2021. Police have said the two got into a struggle before the stabbing. Allen alleges

Smith grabbed a knife and attacked him. Smith died of multiple stab wounds. Police found him after being asked to conduct a wellness check.

Allen is currently incarcerated in Washington County Detention Center in Hagerstown.
