Merrill Stanley Shaw
1936-2022
Merrill Stanley Shaw, 86, Hancock, Md., passed away Monday, December 26, 2022.
Born October 6, 1936, in Hancock, W.Va., he was the son of the late Merrill Alvah and Dorothy Florence Shaw, and the oldest of three siblings.
He was a 1955 graduate of Hancock High School.
He was a former member of the Moose and a member of the Sons of the American Legion.
He was a member, former elder and Sunday School Superintendent of the Mt. Olivet Presbyterian Church.
He was an electrician for 32 years and shortly after retiring, went to work for the Washington County Parks and Recreation.
He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, gardening, singing and playing bass alongside his loving wife. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jessie Marie (Bishop) Shaw; four daughters, Barbara Clark, and husband, Bill, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., Debbie Bowman, and husband, Kenny, Tammy Golden and husband, Randy, all of Hancock, Md., Cathy Moats and husband, Todd, of Hagerstown, Md.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Delores Finney and one brother, Leroy Shaw.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Vicki Marie Shaw Anderson; one grandson, Seth Kendall Bowman; and one great-grandson, Callum Michael Wright.
The family received friends Friday, December 30, 2022, 10 a.m.-12 p.m., at Mt. Olivet Presbyterian Church, 14253 Exline Road, Hancock, Md. Funeral services followed at the church at 12 p.m. Pastor Zack Bryne officiated. Burial followed the service in the adjoining church cemetery.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main St, Hancock, MD.
