Joan Elizabeth Luttrell
1931-2022
Joan Elizabeth Luttrell, 91 years old, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va. passed away on Friday, December 30, 2022 at home surrounded by her loved ones while under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.
Born November 30, 1931 in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., she was the only child of the late Harry Cadin Luttrell and Lucy Marie Davison Luttrell.
She was married to the love of her life, Raymond Telle Luttrell. Their story began when she met him at Greenwood Church when he brought his aunt to church to see a Christmas program in which Joan played a part. They married on December 24, 1949 and just celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary. Together they raised their family in the home that they renovated from the old Greenwood School. She was a homemaker on Greenwood Acres Farm where she cared for her parents in their later years. She attended Morgan County Schools and was a 1949 graduate from Berkeley Springs High School. She was a lifelong member of Greenwood United Methodist Church where she served on many committees. She was active in the Greenwood School PTA where her children and grandchildren attended. She was a lifelong member of the South Morgan Volunteer Fire Department, where she volunteered in the kitchen until her health no longer permitted her to do so. She was also a member of the Southern Belles and Farm Bureau. She loved cooking for her family, baking, ceramics, feeding and watching the birds and gardening, especially growing marigolds and geraniums. She also enjoyed taking pictures of her family.
Along with her husband, Raymond, she is survived by her son, R. Dallas Luttrell, her daughter, Dionis M. Platt, grandchildren Joseph C. Luttrell and his wife Brigitte L. Luttrell, Kaitlyn E. Platt and significant other, Jesse Hayes, Sierra Waugaman and her husband, Austin Waugaman, all of Berkeley Springs, her great-grandchildren, Elliott G. Luttrell, Radin M. Luttrell, Emarie G. Waugaman and many cousins that she held dear to her heart. In lieu of flowers, her wishes were to have contributions made to Greenwood Grove Cemetery Association and South Morgan Volunteer Fire Department.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 6, 2023 at Greenwood United Methodist Church, Winchester Grade Road, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. Interment will be in Greenwood Grove Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
