Hancock man dies in Monday accident east of Hagerstown

Maryland State Police have reported that a Hancock man was killed in a single vehicle accident on Monday, October 31 near Funkstown.

According to police, Seth Bowman, 20, of Hancock was the driver of a 2013 Nissan Altima that was found on its driver side in a creek in the area of U.S. Route 40 east of Beaver Creek Road.

Investigating Trooper TFC Socks said the Hagerstown barracks were notified of the accident at 8:09 p.m. When troopers responded, they found two passengers outside the vehicle. Hailey Blotner, 18, of Hagerstown and Travis Dorsey, 20, of Hancock were taken to Meritus hospital for evaluation. Police found Bowman deceased in the driver’s seat.

Police said during their investigation witnesses reported that the Nissan was traveling and passed other vehicles going eastbound on Route 40 at a high rate of speed. Witnesses told police the driver of the Nissan lost control of the car on the wet roadway and went over an embankment, striking a tree before coming to rest in the creek.

The collision is still under investigation by the Hagerstown Barracks. TFC Socks can be reached at the barracks.
