Charles Lloyd Frederick, Sr.

1938-2022

Charles Lloyd Frederick, Sr. passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 in Hagerstown, Md., at the age of 83.

He was born to Charles Edward and Mary E. Fleece Frederick on November 7, 1938 in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

He was preceded in death by his four siblings and his wife Shirley Ann Rhoe Frederick of Cherry Run, W.Va.

Affectionately known as “Charlie” or “Doc,” and to those close to him as “Lloyd,” Charlie was quite a colorful and robust character.

He was an accomplished athlete in both track and field and football at Berkeley Springs High School. Later in life he became a Hall of Fame inductee. Charlie was a standout halfback at Shepherd College, and also a Hall of Famer there as well. Charlie also had a very prominent career as a high school track coach at North Hagerstown High School.

Charlie was a lifelong scholar with a dream of being a lifelong educator. His willingness to share wisdom was incredible. Charlie attended Shepherd College, The University of North Carolina, M.I.T., the University of Iowa where he received his doctorate, and The University of Minnesota-Duluth. He later went on to teach at Cal-State Long Beach and Pepperdine University in California.

Charlie was a die-hard fan of country music and was a successful recording artist at Acuff-Rose Studios in Nashville, Tenn.

Charlie was also a man of faith, a Christian. Please, God, watch over our dad.

Charlie leaves behind his children, Charles Lloyd Frederick, Jr. and his wife Deborah, Mark Frederick, Traci Frederick and James Frederick and several grandchildren, Charlie III, Kristen Frederick Daugherty, Corey and Darek Frederick, Abigail, Gabriella and Layla Frederick as well as Julious and Elliana, his great grandchildren.

We love you Pops.
