Mary Catherine Ashkettle

1937-2022

Mary Catherine Ashkettle, 84, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2022, at UPMC Western Maryland in Cumberland Maryland.

Born August 9, 1937, she was the oldest daughter of the late James L. and Mary Ellen (Young) Ashkettle.

Catherine was a hardworking, caring, independent person.

She was a 1956 graduate of Flintstone High School.

Catherine enjoyed 32 years of employment at London Fog Manufacturing before retiring from Rayloc after 7 years of service.

Catherine was a faithful member of St. Peter’s and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Though she had no children, she loved her nieces and nephews as her own.

She leaves behind one Sister, Teresa Wallizer, of Hancock, Md.; one Sister-in-Law, Irma Ashkettle of Hancock, Md.; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Bernard Ashkettle, John Ashkettle, and infant James and a nephew, John B. Ashkettle.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 3, 2022, 6-8 p.m., at Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main St., Hancock, Md. Rosary Prayer Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, August 4, 2022, 2 p.m., with visitation one hour prior, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 16 E. High Street, Hancock, Md. Father Jack Lombardi will officiate. Burial will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main St., Hancock, MD.
