1930-2022

Betty Ceal Perry, age 92, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at War Memorial Hospital.

Born at the family farm on June 20, 1930 in Great Cacapon, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Martin E. and Oleta Pearl Arnold Shanholtz.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Berkeley Springs.

Betty was a graduate of Berkeley Springs High School and then four years of training for becoming a registered nurse.

She worked at City Hospital in Martinsburg and retired after 34 years of service as a registered nurse with War Memorial Hospital.

Betty enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, crocheting and could play the piano by ear.

Betty is survived by her children, Tamara Jean Gaither and her husband, William Frank and Jeffrey Hunter Perry, all of Berkeley Springs, Tonya Banks Lessard of Berryville, Va., two sisters, Twila Mae Andrews of Berryville, Va., Joann Wachter of Berkeley Springs, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Perry, one daughter, Tara Lynn Perry, two sisters, Dorothy Carol Dorsey, Oleta Jean Shanholtz and two brothers, Robert and Homer Shanholtz.

Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at First United Methodist Church, 49 S. Green Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., with Pastor Joshua Rider officiating. Burial was in Enon Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Great Cacapon, W.Va.

The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Betty’s memory may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 49 S. Green Street, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
