Rotary to create field of flags again this year

by Geoff Fox

Last summer, Hancock Rotary had a field of over 300 flags in Widmeyer Park honoring heroes in the community. This year, Rotary is looking to do the same.

Field of Flags for Heroes will be on display in Widmeyer Park over the Fourth of July weekend.

Rotary is currently taking slips for this year’s Field of Flags for Heroes and you can get your form from any Rotary member, at TRUIST of Hancock, or mail to Rotary Club of Hancock, PO Box 35, Hancock, MD 21750.

The cost is a $5 donation per flag/hero and is limited to one hero per flag.

Heroes are past or present members of the community. The flags honor enlisted military personnel, police, firefighters, first responders, teachers, mentors, or anyone that has been a hero to you.

The flags will be placed in a “Field of Flags” in Widmeyer Park near the Memorial beginning the evening of Thursday, June 30, and remain through the evening of Tuesday, July 5.

Each flag will have a tag displaying the hero’s name and the sponsor’s name as well.

The heroes and sponsors will be recognized on each flag and social media.

Deadline for submitting a sponsorship is Sunday, June 19.
